ummm...

let's just pretend that last post about Reggie Bush never happened. Turns out he gets all his yards off of catches out of the backfield

However I did boldly predict that Chipper Jones would average an RBI per game over the second half...here are his stats from the AJC for the month of august

He was batting .337 in August with 11 home runs and a major league-leading 28 RBIs in 24 games before Sunday.

I'm sick and tired.....

of these young running backs getting so much media attention when they haven't done anything. ESPN has an article where Bruce Feldman lists the top 100 players in the NCAA. So he has Carnell Williams at 19. He's wrong but I'm not going to get that worked up over it. However seven spots down at #26 he has Reggie Bush of USC. Yeah that's right Cadillac who has twice rushed for 1,000 yards and as a freshman had two games in which he gained over 140 yards rushing (against Arkansas and UGA not some creampuffs is ranked 19. And just seven spots down is Bush who in his freshman year playing for a national champion did not once rush for a hundred yards in a game and only gained 500 yards on the entire year. Really at some point hype from highschool has to end and you have to be productive. Same thing goes for Kregg Lumpkin (pre-injury) everyone was touting him like he was going to be a star this year. He also did not rush for 100 yds in a game last year.

The only sophomore somewhat deserving of the praise he is getting is Justin Vincent. And he only had two good games last year. Of course those two games were a combined 300 yards against Oklahoma and UGA two of the top 5 defenses in the nation. And for the record Feldman has Bush 8 spots higher than Justin Vincent. So the kid in two games comes up just 200 yards short of Bush's numbers for all of last year, against two top 5 teams, both who have top 5 defenses, and he supposedly is 8 spots worse of a player. Brilliant Logic Bruce.

a quick thought on college football

Unless you're getting paid to study college football full time by ESPN I don't see how anyone can have a truly educated guess on who is going to win what. I mean I have a decent idea of who is good but really. If some article says that Arkansas only has one returning starter on their offense I read into that they are not going to be good. But just because they didn't play last year doesn't mean they are not good. I happen to think the best player on Auburn's defensive line is Stanley McClover who has not played a snap in college football yet. But if you read Sports Illustrated they would just tell you that Auburn lost starting DE Reggie Torbor to the NFL and that he is being replaced by a sophomore.

So with that in mind. Here are my SEC rankings. I don't even know the schedules that well.

SEC West
Auburn
LSU
Ole Miss
Arkansas
MSU
Bama

SEC East
UGA
UF
UT
Vandy
USC
UK

I refuse to predict the championship game until i see how things go down in the first matchup between UGA and Auburn.

probably not making the playoffs again

So Eric Dampier is going to the Dallas Mavs. The Hawks ended up with the Drobber. I don't see anyway the Hawks make it to the playoffs with out getting a particulary good point guard from somewhere. Troy Hudson would be fine but who knows if the hawks would end up with him.

Dallas on the other hand looks pretty solid. Starting five of Terry, Finley, Stackhouse?, Nowitzki and Dampier. With Daniels, Howard, Harris etc coming off bench.

The end of an era

Unfortunately I see the emergence of the Old School Nasty Fantasy Football League becoming the death of the Old School Nasty Blog. And frankly I can't disagree. Now the blog will probably consist of me just typing some rant everyday just so it creates a page and thus another like to the cvls.com site and continue to help me on my way to becoming an internet mogul.

However I will not stop posting on this site until we get to number one for "old school nasty" in google. That is my ultimate goal and I will not give up. And even though there is not monetary value to be had...I almost want it more than to rank on the first page of guitar lessons which could possibly bring me about $10,000 in 2005. Whatever.

Rome

I can't stand the guy. I think he's completely ridiculous and has absolutely zero entertainment value. But you can't just ignore a piece of comedic gold like this

Jim Rome continuously prodded Jim Everett about his perceived lack of toughness as an NFL signal-caller on the old ESPN show, Talk2, in 1994 (video).

Jim Rome: You may have even been Jim Everett back there [in 1989] but somewhere along the way Jim, you ceased being Jim and you became Chris.

Jim Everett: Well, let me tell you a little secret ... that, you know, we're sitting here right now, and if you guys want to take a station break, you can. But if you call me Chris Everett to my face one more time ...

JR: I already did it twice

JE: You'd better ... if you call it one more time, we'd better take a station break.

JR: Well, its a five-minute segment, on a five-segment show. We've got a long way to go

JE: We do.

JR: We've got a long way to go. I'll get a couple of segments out of you.

JE: It's good to be here with you though ... because you've been talking like this behind my back for a long time now.

JR: But now I've said it right here, so we've got no problems then.

JE: I think that you probably won't say it again.

JR: I'll bet I do

JE: OK

[short pause]

JR: Chris.

[Everett tosses aside coffee table, pounces on Rome]

Kilborn

Well I found this kinda surprising but supposedly Craiggers is leaving the Late Late Show. I can't really say that I've watched it regulary in the last 4 years or so but it's still a little surprising. Especially considering he did sportscenter this week.

finally the search is over

Check this out Braves Plate Appearance Songs
Now I finally can buy the cd for Rafael Furcal's plate appearance song. One huge obmission though. How do they not mention Julio Franco's "God is Control"

The lamest non God rock song on the list has got to be Mike Hampton's "I like I love it" by Tim McGraw followed closely by Mark DeRosa letting down Atlanta by selecting "Higher" by Creed.

I also suspect that John Thomson is Michael's new favorite pitcher b/c he selected a friggin Toby Keith song. BOOOOHHH!!!

Final Thoughts on the subject Nick Green "Roses" and Marcus Giles "various Nelly songs". OOOHHHH White Chocolate in the hizouse.

advertisements

anyone notice the ads at the top of the page. They change depending on what I talk about in the messages. Awhile back they were ads for Vince Carter Autographed posters and jersey because I mentioned him in my rant about Ricky Williams. Then after all the talk about oysterfest I noticed they contained ads for shrimp. Now I will alter them and support the man. Let's see how this experiment goes.

All Hail #7

another day another Vick quote

Michael Vick on Tuesday talked about growing out his hair, which is now about 2 or 3 inches long: "I just said I wasn't going to cut it until I won a Super Bowl, so that's my motivation. I figure come January, it shouldn't be so high. . . . But it's getting pretty bushy. My mom doesn't like it."

Vick said he was growing it out last year but cut it. Shortly after, he broke his leg. "I figure this year, I'll stick to the script," said Vick, a superstitious sort.

end of the Jason Terry Era

Well Jason Terry is no longer an Atlanta Hawk. And I personally would like to welcome a former player for both Taint Sweat and Disco Stu, Antoine Walker, to the ATL. I don't if this helps us as a basketball team but I guess it's a try.

I kinda felt they had the start of a nucleus for a good running team but whatever. And I do believe that Jason Terry will only suceed on a fast paced team. So the Mavs should be good for him. Plus Walker was completely out of place on the Mavs.

I don't know who the Hawks are going to get to play point guard. I don't really think Diaw is the answer as a point forward. So that will be interesting.

Michael Vick is so cool

From the AJC this morning

Vick's wearing one of the yellow "Livestrong" bracelets that cyclist and cancer survivor Lance Armstrong's been selling. They're both Nike clients.

"I've never met him, but I've heard a lot about him and his accomplishments, what he's done for his sport," Vick said. "I just know he's a good person with a big heart, so I'm showing my support. You buy a bracelet, and proceeds go to his cancer research foundation."

Dude! Sweet!

back at work

I'm not happy being back at work however I think it's good for me. If my vaction had lasted a couple of days longer I may have actually died.
